Ashley Sportiva Coupé
Registration No. UWM 157
In October 2021 I was pleasantly surprised to receive
this email from Jerome Norris telling me
about the Ashley Sportiva
he purchased in 1963:
Hi Ivor,
Please see the attached image of an Ashley Sportiva bought by me in 1963 as an unfinished project, Registration number UWM 157.
It was based on a Ford Popular chassis with the E93A engine and it was completed by my father and I in 1964.
When completed I ran it daily for over three years before trading it on.
Best wishes,
Jerome.

I replied and thanked Jerome for contacting me and asked if he had noticed my Sportiva on this website, which was very similar to his.
Also saying that I was interested to know more about his and could he help by supplying more details of his Sportiva’s construction, mechanical workings etc. also if he had anymore photos.
A few weeks later I had this reply:

Ivor,
Sorry for the delay, I will get back to you on this – just have a lot going on at the moment and searching for old photos can be time consuming but I will do it.
Many thanks for your interest.
Jerome
Then Six months later:
I have not forgotten you Ivor, I found some black and white pictures of my Sportiva and will get them to you. I though you might find this Falcon auction interesting. https://www.carandclassic.com/auctions/1958-falcon-mk-ii

This was all during "COVID" time and I'm concerned
and hoping that Jerome has not been one of the many 1,000's that have not survived, as it's now over a year since his last email.
I have recently emailed him and I'm hoping to hear from him
soon to dispel my fears.

I'm very pleased to say I have had a reply from Jerome and he is fit and well and sent me the photo's he promised previously
along with these further details:

Hi Ivor,
Sorry for the long delay. I have not been able to find out anything more about UWM 157 than I have already told you but I have attached some black and white pictures of the car taken in 1965 at the Elleray Hotel in Windermere in the English Lake District where I was a young assistant manager.
Just a word about the interior. It was trimmed in grey faux leather piped in red. I replaced the rubber flooring with red carpet which looked better but also helped with noise insulation. The previous owner had cut away the black grain dashboard and fitted a wooden polished grain (Jaguar style) dashboard which set off the interior very well.
In the unlikely event that any other information emerges I will pass it on to you a little more quickly than this info.
Best wishes

These 3 photo's Jerome took when he worked at the

They were B & W which I took the liberty
